As GATE 2018 result is out and students who qualified these exams but not get good rank by any reason and the students who are preparing first time for the above exams wants to know how should we prepare so that we may also get good rank in GATE IES and PSUs exam.
Today we are with Naman Jaswani who secured AIR 01 in GATE 2018 in Instrumentation engineering branch.
I am B.Tech final year student of NIT Jalandhar. I found that one has to give GATE exam and secure a decent rank to get into Maharatna PSUs. So I decided to prepare for it.
My first reaction
I locked myself in my hostel room to check my result alone. As I scrolled down and saw 92.67 marks (which was 1.33 less than what I had calculated) and then I saw ALL INDIA RANK 1 alongside to it which gave me the Biggest sigh of relief. I ran out, unlocked my room and found most of my friends waiting outside. They too were shocked for a moment. Then I ran to the top of my hostel building and informed my parents. Credit to my rank goes to my teachers, my parents and my friends.
I joined class room courses at Engineers Academy Jalandhar, and Online test series at MadeEasy and Ace Academy.
It depends on your learning skills whether you need coaching or not as one of my intelligent friend cracked GATE without coaching with a decent rank.
A. Study schedule:
I completed my syllabus along with questions till November end. Then in December I revised my notes, solved previous year questions from IN, ECE, EE again, and gave subject wise tests from made easy. Then in January I gave MadeEasy mock tests and also joined ACE test series and gave its tests too.
B. Strong and weak subjects (How did I prepare them?)
I gave equal preference to each subject along with the aptitude.
Books and e-sources
Coaching notes, previous year questions and test series. That’s it !!!
Yes I prepared for aptitude section by solving previous years aptitude questions from all of the branches.
I gave around 20 mock tests from MadeEasy and Ace combined, they are really important if you want a gook rank.
I practiced time management in mock tests by giving 20min to aptitude section, 40-45 minutes to 1 mark questions and 1.5 hrs to 2 marks questions that saved around 30 minutes in the last to solve unsolved questions and to go through the entire paper again. But in the actual examination, I managed to save 45 to 1 hr for solving unsolved questions and revise the entire paper.
Can’t answer as not prepared yet.
Most probably I will joining a PSU.
